Becoming a New Patient

We are so excited you visited our Heartland Endocrine Group site and hope you will be partnering with us to help you on your journey to endocrine wellness.

We are different. We offer a holistic approach to endocrine health.

We look for the cause of your symptoms. Our practice is strongly based on Western, academic endocrinology and recommends allopathic treatments as well as nutrition, mind-body medicine, herbal remedies, supplements, and exercise when appropriate. In addition, we consider your genetics, exposures and lifestyle to personalize your endocrine-related health plan. Our goal is to help you feel normal again.

If you are ready to start your journey with us, please follow these steps:

  1. You may schedule a new patient visit from our website. Please see the schedule tab.
  2. We would appreciate copies of any available medical records 7 days in advance of your appointment so Dr. Figaro can review your prior endocrine care.  If we have this information in advance, we can spend more of your visit time getting to know you instead of reviewing these records.  Our fax is (563) 424-6602.
  3. Once you have scheduled a patient appointment, please register with our patient portal here: Patient Portal.  You need to complete all three consent forms and the new patient questionnaires to begin.

Initial visits

Your initial visit will include a 45-60-minute visit with Dr. Figaro. During your visit, Dr. Figaro will take a detailed history and perform a medical examination. She will review any pertinent medical records that you bring with you or will have already reviewed records you sent ahead. With all that information, she will first develop a plan for the evaluation of your condition and later, usually during a second visit, an integral treatment plan tailored to your particular endocrine condition. During this process, she works alongside with you in evaluating the cause of your symptoms and discusses the possible treatment options. You are a necessary partner in this process. No other patients are scheduled during your appointment time.

  • Initial visit: $225-300 (new patients to Dr. Figaro)

      • Perform a thorough physical exam
      • Develop personalized medical plan

Traditional Weight Loss Therapy: this is a lifestyle program. This program will help you lose weight in a way that improves your health and is helpful for any chronic conditions you already have. A “therapeutic lifestyle” means making choices every day that will enhance your health and help prevent diseases, enabling you to achieve a full, healthy life.

Recommended for Health
A lifestyle program is now recommended for individuals with many of the chronic conditions above, as well as those with other health problems such as:

  • Stress-related factors
  • Infertility
  • Other hormone-related symptoms
  • Fatigue
  • PCOS
  • Menopause
  • Conditions related to overweight/obesity

We implement traditional and natural medical treatments:
The path to optimal health begins with:

  • Implementation of a healthy lifestyle
  • Balancing eating habits and lowering calorie counts
  • Regular physical activity, both strength training and aerobic
  • Appropriate nutritional intake with condition-specific nutrients outlined
  • Stress management for internal balance, including use of yoga and other movement treatments

Sometimes people do not realize that natural medicine requires multiple layers and resolute consistency. It is even more important to be consistent with natural treatments than with medications. Most medications that are FDA approved take at least 50% adherence to work. I would say that natural treatments may take upwards of 80% to work. I want to be your partner in implementing these strategies if they are appropriate for your medical condition.

Practice Policies

Cancellation of Appointments

We spend a lot of time with our patients and therefore have a limited number of available appointment slots. Due to the high demand for our services, we have a 48-hour cancellation policy. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 2 days notice, this will count towards your no-show limit. We understand that life happens so if you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please call our office within the cancellation policy guidelines.

Payment Options

Our office accepts cash, checks, paypal, or credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express or Discover) at the time services are rendered. We require a credit card on file and your insurance information to schedule a visit. Certain services, such has interpretation of pump or continuous glucose monitoring system are extra from the cost of the visit.

Insurance Information

At Heartland Endocrine Group,  we choose to spend our time developing relationships with our patients rather than managing relationships with insurance companies. Therefore, we do not accept different forms of insurance including Medicare/Medicaid. You may use pretax dollars from a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account to pay for our services. You are invited to send all receipts from the appointment for payment by your insurance company and most will pay 50% or more of the visit fee.

We will provide you with a summary of diagnostic and procedure codes to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, but cannot guarantee our services will be covered. We recommend you call your insurance company to find out what your specific plan will cover before your first visit.

We are not a Medicare provider and billing for our services may not be submitted to Medicare or Medicaid for reimbursement.

Laboratory Fees

At Heartland Endocrine Group we use a variety of laboratory values to identify the source of your symptoms and to treat your endocrine condition. Our specialty is perhaps the most lab-dependent since levels of hormones in the blood need to be monitored and adjusted for you to feel your best.

Conventional Lab Studies
We work with 3 local lab companies (Metro, Labcorp and Quest) who will draw your labs and file a claim with your insurance company. These labs will be subject to your insurance company copayments. You should contact your insurance company to determine what labs they will cover.  As an option, metro labs offers labs at a discounted cash rate.

What We Don’t Treat
